If your a fan of Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials Trilogy” then you might just be squealing with excitement by the end of this article.
Earlier today BBC announced that they have commissioned the series.
The series will “sound every note” in the much-loved novels, according to its producers.
His Dark Materials – which consists of the novels Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass – has been published in more than 40 languages and has sold nearly 17.5 million copies worldwide.
The story centres on Lyra, a girl who lives at an Oxford college, who embarks on a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust.
In the second book she is joined on her journey by Will, a boy who possesses a knife that can cut windows between alternative worlds.
Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema, have begun searching for a writer to create the scripts for the series, which will enter pre-production next year with filming set to take place in Wales. It will be shown on BBC1 but there is currently no broadcast date.
Polly Hill, the BBC drama commissioning controller, said it was an honour to be able to bring the series to TV: “ His Dark Materials is a stunning trilogy, and a drama event for young and old – a real family treat, that shows our commitment to original and ambitious storytelling.”
