INSTANBUL (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — An Istanbul concert by Beyonce planned as part of the city's Fenerbahce Sports Club centenary festivities was canceled after a Kurdish rebel ambush resulted in the deaths of twelve Turkish soldiers.

According to the French Press, the event was scheduled for October 24th at Fenerbahce's Sukru Saracoglu stadium. Purchased tickets will be refundable, the club said.

There may be deeper political underpinnings to the cancellation. The United States and Turkey have been at diplomatic loggerheads in recent weeks over security issues in relation to northern Iraq and an attempt by the U.S. Congress to condemn the Armenian genocide perpetrated by Turkey during World War I.

"We decided today that these festivities could not be held in the present atmosphere," Fenerbahce vice-president Ali Koc said in statement "Our sorrow is deep, we share the grief of the nation." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
